In Memory

Doug Wiltgen

Doug Wiltgen

It is with great sadness that we have lost another classmate. Doug fought a courageous battle with throat cancer over the last 12 years. He will always be remembered as a friend with a heart as big as the great outdoors. And the below was relayed to Rick Niemi:

It's with extremely sad news that I have been dreading for the last few months....we just received a text from Debbie Wiltgen.... "with great sadness to let you know that Doug has ridden off on his motorcycle to a better place..... Even though it was very emotional, Darin and I were with him yesterday (enjoyed some laughs as Doug still displayed a sense of humor) until he passed peacefully at about 10:00pm."

We all have memorably stories of and with Doug.....he will be greatly missed.

Have an enjoyable ride into the sunset...

I so sad to hear the passing of Doug.  I send heart felt prayers to Doug's family.  I remember Doug from school as we shared some classes and played ball together.  His house was just down the street from my folks house on 12th Court in the Highlands.  I also remember Doug's since of humor.  He was good for a laugh.  God Bless Doug's family at this sad time.  May all the great memories substain you and fill your heart with peace.

I have many fond memories of Doug in high school and some of the great parties at his house. But one of the great memories I'll always have was when Rick, Syd and Tyler Niemi and myself and Linda Oliver (Mullin) went one year to Hot August Nights in Reno. Doug was a manager then at Morey Distribiting which was a large distributor of Bud and Bud Light. And Budweiser was a large sponsor of Hot August Nights. Doug made sure we got special rates at a great resort and we had VIP passes for us to rock concerts with great viewing seats, free food but most importantly free Bud and Bud Light. Naturally Niemi and myself only indulged in a few Bud beverages! But this was just "common" for Doug. When you came to visit Doug he always treated you like a king and the most important person in the world. The man truly had a heart of gold.

Doug my friend, may your Harley always run well, May the wind always be at your back and May your next adventure begin! Linda and I will always remember you.

I'll tell you a little story about Doug Wiltgen. Remember Lake Hills Roller Rink?

Well, in our senior year we were at a big dance at Lake Hills. And you know how it was. Very multicultural, different high schools were there. Very tribal, which is what I dug about going to RHS.

Well, I was separated from my tribe and four guys from another school (I think it was Rainier Beach High School) jumped me. After some words, one guy smacked me in the face. And then they all took off.

A little later we were out on the dance floor dancing and Doug says to me, "where did you get that black eye?" Well, I didn't even know I had a black eye. So I told him I got jumped by some guys.

He says, "Who was that? Show me who it was. Nobody fucks with out president!" I was Boys Club president at the time and Doug was vice-president.

It was funnly to see Doug go over and get two of those guys in a headlock at the same time. They were trying to act like he was just joking with them but then his headlock got tighter and tighter until they had a little scuffle.

Of course they did not want any part of Doug. So he made them come over and apologize to me. I think after that we all became buddies with those guys and saw them at other dances.

The  good old days! Rest in peace, my brother!

I really didn't know Doug in high school ( I knew of him, however). But on our 50th RHS reunion, I was helping out at the golf tourny, handing out golf towels to all the participants when Doug approached me and asked if he could be my helper! Now, how could I turn that down! In the short amount of time that we were together, I realized what a super person he was and wish that I could of discovered that years ago! RIP Doug, we will see you on the other side someday.

Yea Charlie we had a lot of fun at lake hills wearing our cedar river ripple rider shirts. Sometimes even starting fights there.
