Charlie Ashmore

Unfortunately we have lost another classmate. Charlie was a great guy whom I'm sure many of you remember from our great days at good old RHS. I don't have much information about Charlie's passing but that his family was at his side when he passed on! Charlie may you always have sun on your face and the wind at your back. RIP my friend.

Damn. One of my best friends. A great guy, courageous person and went on to accomplish some amazing things in his life.

I am heart sick.  I haven't seen Charlie in many years but we talked on the phone and corresponded on line a few times over the years.  I was a transfer from Kent to RHS in the Spring of 1963.  In 64 and 65, I, Charlie and Dick Jones were on the gymnastic team under Coach Jack Benson.  After graduation, we all three followed Coach Benson to Cheney, Benson's alma matter EWSC, to rebuild their gymnastics program.  We lived in a dorm most of the 1965-66 school year.  It's pretty cold in Eastern WA in the Winter.  We all did fairly well in our classes.  Come Spring in 1966 we decided to save some money and move off campus.  Bad idea.  We all three had pretty serious girlfriends and threw some legendary parties from our brand new appartment.  Grades went to hell,  money became a problem and so we all went our separate ways.  I joined the Army and went through Special Forces and two tours in Vietnam, Charlie, smarter than Dick or I combined, went to Canada and had a good life there.  The 60s were pretty crazy with the War, the Draft and love relationships none of us were ready for.  But my heart swells when I think of my two friends in those days and Charlie especially.  God bless his family and all those he loved.  I do not know if Dick Jones is still alive or not.  Haven't seen him since 1973.
