Leonard, was in Vietnam during the same period I was, 1968-70.  He was a Crew-Chief/ Door Gunner on a UH-1H (Huey helicopter).  Leonard was very near his time to return to the U.S. at the end of his tour in 1968.  The information I got, was that he decided to fly a combat mission in place of someone else.  He didn't have to go.  The aircraft was downed by Communist ground fire.  My understanding at the time, all aboard died.  It was a terrible tragedy to his Mother and younger brother Harlan.  Anyone who was there, would agree, any combat related job in Vietnam, was a very dangerous line of work.  Never the less, we all did what was expected of us!

God bless you Leonard.  You died way too soon.   Terrance W. Pardee MSG USA (Ret.)
