Bob was one of the first neighborhood kids I met when my family moved into Lakeridge in 1954. Bob was always a friendly, welcoming, all-inclusive kind of person. His mom was our Cub Scout Den Mother. He had even asked me to be his running mate when he ran for SBA President, but my ego got in the way and I did not want to be 'second fiddle' to anyone! My loss, of course.

We parted ways after high school, but I would usually call him and try to get him to attend our reunions (I even chaired our 30th), but he would usually decline for one reason or another. Even though he lived only an hour away in Olympia, I never took the time to go visit him. (Again, my loss.)

When I learned of his death and attended his Memorial, I learned more about what it was that shortened his otherwise wonderful, talented, generous, and caring (for others) life. Now, I get to wonder whether those lost opportunities to make a visit happen may have made a difference--doubtful, I'm sure. But still can't help but wonder.

What a guy. What a loss.

Regards to all,

Ron Mattson
