Mike Lankester

Unfortunately Mike passed away this morning on 2/1/18. As some of you know Mike became a professional middle weight boxer after high school. I have included a link to a website that has his stats as well as his wins and losses. RIP Mike. You will be missed. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/16229

I also have lots of nice memories of Mike around the McNight days.  He was rugged! I remember him once running full speed, diving straight out,  and landing on his gut. Goofy guy. He didn't seem like a guy who liked to get into fights though, but he sure had the genetics for it. Tough!

Mike Chapman

I grew up with Mike. We lived on the north end of the block on N. Williams and they were aross the alley on the SE corner on N Burnett. Mike wasn't so much a fighter as he was a boxer. He never picked fights but would never back down. He was really tough. I saw him once in the Eagle Auditorium. He could get out boxed but you couldn't hurt him. He dealt a lot of damage to the boby. One day we were in my back yard laying on the lawn reading a magezine. His mom, Ester, (that is where he got his toughness) came out on their back porch and started calling for him. He didn't answer. She kept calling and he ignored her. I said Mike, you better go and he just ignored. Pretty soon her voice was getting louder and closer and said, 'Mike, you better go'! Still nothing. Pretty soon she came around the burning barrel (remember those?) with a broom in her hand holding it by the straw. She raised it over her head and swung it as hard as she could and broke it over his butt. He looked like he bounced off a trampoline as he sprung up holding his ass. Their German Shepard, Shep, was part our familes for 12 years. I saw Mike cry once; when their new puppy got hit by a car and killed. He and Keith were cutting wood out towards Issaquah and forgot something and and Mike went racing home on cemetary and got caught on radar. He got a ticket and went home and got nailed on the way back by the same cop. Mike had his brushes with law (never serious, but he did do some time in Monroe). One time he got arrested and did a short stint in Renton. When he got out within a few days he was back in their parking syhoning gas when a cop came out and said, 'What are you doing'? 'Getting my money back'. He lost his license several times. As his dad, Harry,  got older he started losing his vision, so Harry would drive and Mike would steer from the passenger seat. In Mike's boxing days John Owen once wrote a nice article about Mike. In it, Ester was quoted as saying, 'Mike was born 100 years too late. He should have been a cowboy'. To tell the truth, this announcement shocked me. I thought Mike would be one of the last ones to go. Could have been all those head shoots. Here's to you Mike.

I remember Mike from McKnight an RHS. He seemed to be a bit sprited and always laughing. He was just a goofy kid, all though a very good looking one. I will always remember his smile and how he could get people to laugh.  Rest in Peace Mike. You will truly be missed.

I have had Mike in my life off and on for years. He and I were boyfriend and girlfriend back in Sartori days. Oh Mike and I could poka and I we ran foot races and he just HATED when I won which was at least half of the time. We are very close friends with his cousin Jimmy Belmondo and saw Mike over the years. Mike was stubboron and tough but but I thought a sweet guy and I will always remember. him with a smile. Rest in piece dear Mike and keep the rest of those guys up there in line. Love, Nancy
