It's been a while since I last checked. Looks like the Wailers may have disbanded in 2011 with the death of Kent Morrill.

Paul Revere and the Raiders do seem to still be performing.

They are all dead except the drummer. I went to a tribute for them several years ago at the paramount. Was great. The Ventures, Little Bill, Larry Correll and more. Little Bill is still around and plays regularly.

I like the idea of inviting Pat O'Day.  The planning committee can get in touch with him thru his website.  He is a real estate saleman in Friday Harbor.

I exchanged emails with John Hanford, guitarist with The Fabulous Wailers. John is a professor of musicology at UW and former member of the Burgundy Express, as well as several other bands. He suggests that he might be able to put something together with original members Buck Ormsby (Bassist) and Neil Rush (saxophone). His current band with Patti Allen is a good consideration, as well as the Bruce Robertson band, with John, Pat Hues and Tim Keliher (keys and drums from Neil Rush Band) and sax virtuoso Jim Coile (they did a 50th reunion ealrier this year). He also suggests The Daily Flash, an excellent chioce.

Thanks, Terry, for doing some legwork on this.  Sounds like some good possibilities.  I think it's more important to have a good cover band that will play "our" music than it is to have one of the original bands from our youth.

Greetings from sunny Bellingham.

A still active band from our era (ancient) still performing with a Renton connection, is the Dick Powell Band.

Dick does lead vocals and plays great blues harp (harmonica).

He does some of his own and lots of blues standards.

If you google Dick Powell band there are a couple sites where you can play his recordings and he is also on Facebook.

Cheers,

To those of you who stayed around Renton it would not be an issue, but I left the state right after college and have not really been to the HS since. Would a tour of the school be in order? Summer school would likely be over so we would not be interfering I would think. I would like to see if anything remains of what I remember from those 3 years.

I like the HS tour idea.

I vote for a dinner cruise! Hoping to see everyone at #50! Touring the High school sounds like a fun idea also!

Has there been a posting to all class members to get a head count yet?  Seems that would make a difference on where the reunion is held, based on size.  In other words..how large a vessel for a cruise, meals etc. I think should be done ASAP.

The facade and the staircases in the front of the school are the same. The morning after our 45th reunion, I took pictures of the outside and I was also able to get inside to look around. There was a church using the school for Sunday services. I walked all the old halls, up and down in the dark. Sure brought back a lot of memories. I am glad they didn't tear down the lovely bricks on the outside of the building. It would be fun to go on a tour with everyone......

just as long as the boys don't throw pennies at us girls when we pass them in the hallways!!

Do any of you girls remember the boys standing buy the boiler room in the mornings before school started ?
I remember Ron Colston would grab a girl and take her down into the boiler room,he made me late for class more then once...oh sweet memories.:)

Oh I remember the boys standing there.  I also remember that the Principal used to take great delight in making  the girls kneel down right in that area to make sure your skirt  touched the floor.  He would never get away with that today.  He only caught me once, but I will never forget looking up snd seeing all the boys smiling.  I thought I was going to die on the spot.

I never heard about the boiler room. Obviously I did not know about the fun spots to hang out. We live a few miles from the local high school. I drove past a few days ago. Short shorts, sweat pants, and torn jeans seemed to be the order of the day. Administrators would not get away with checking the length of skirts because they could not find any to check. Yes, I am getting old.

I actually got whupped by the vice principal (Talmadge I think) down in the boiler room as a senior in high school. Can you imagine? Our crime -- some of us senior boys went around to various classrooms and sang Xmas carols outside the classroom doors.

Charlie that was just plain mean of him.  But, I remember hearing you guys get swats through the gym walls, never happen today.

I love hearing these stories of our youth sure brings back some wonderful and fun memories.I remember the Blue Ox and having lunch there..was always wondered about the Hut..but was told only the bad kids hung out there..

Dose anyone know excatly how big our graduating class was? I think we were the last biggest class to graduated there so it makes me wonder if even half came to the reunion would the boat  be able to handle such a large group?

Hey Sue, Don't know if you or Gail remember cutting the sewing machine cord in half in Home Ec.  Can't remember the teachers name but we had her for a couple of years.  June something.... Also, having a very pregnant, unmarried Family living teacher.  Quite the sin in those days.

We had approximately 3000 students and 850 seniors in 65'

The exact number that did graduate was 809. There were a few who found out days before graduation that they did not make it.  At one of our reunions it was said that there has never been a larger graduating class in the state of Washington. I graduated number 1. But I was not number 1. There were many of us as the class was so large. I often wonder how many number ones there were.  If you were one mention it here and maybe we can get an idea.

The home economics teacher was June Stultz...she was a tuff one,she always seem to have bad breath so we left her a bottle of mouthwash..yikes our bad for sure.

Thanks for the heads up on the class count for some reasn I thought it was larger then that.

I too was under the impression that RHS 65', was the largest graduating class in Washington State history.  809 graduates to be exact.  When I went to Eastern Washington State College in the Fall of 65', along with Charlie Ashmore and Dick Jones, I met students from Spokane that swore up and down, that Shadle Park High School 65' came in with over 900 graduates!  "All glory is fleeting."

I remember the 809 figure as well. I have used that number to describe my  graduation class for almost 50 years now. Do not remember my number, but I seriously doubt it was 1.

Connie, I don't remember the cord getting cut, but I wouldn't be surprised about anything that happened when the three of us got together.  I really flunked sewing, but she gave me a "D" so she didn't have to deal with me again.  To this day I still do not sew, not even a button.   I did do really good in the cooking though.

I also remember 809. I don't know of a larger class since.
